Grand Geneva Say “I Do” Photo Contest – Stephanie & John – Dreams Come True

30 Jul, 2010

Stephanie & John Kennedy were married at the Grand Geneva Resort on May 30, 2010.

Here is their story and photo submission for the Grand Geneva Say “I Do” Photo Contest.

Stephanie & John

Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed about my wedding day.  I’ve had the luxury for the past 20 years to dream about my ‘big day’ to help me fall asleep during those restless nights when I couldn’t sleep, or after a particularily long day. I would envision myself walking down the aisle in my proud handsome fathers arms in a beautiful white dress. Like counting sheep, I would watch my parents, groomsmens and beautiful bridesmaids walk down the aisle, one by one…as I would drift off into a blissful sleep to the soft sounds of Bach playing ‘Jesu, Joy of a Man’s Desiring’.  It was such a wonderful feeling knowing that some day I would give myself to the man I would choose to spend the rest of my life with and, express my love and devotion to him in front of my family and closest friends.  The long awaited anticipation and vison of it was so exciting that I would drift off in an everso peaceful sleep with a big smile on my face and a warm feeling in my heart. Knowing that some day, all of my dreams will have come true.  I had many, many of these dreams.  I didn’t marry until I was 39 years old; just 2 months ago.  John and I exchanged our vows at the Grand Geneva on May 30th, 2010.  Our wedding weekend was everything (and more) than I had ever dreamed it would be.  The Fairview, the Evergreen Ballroom and the Newport Awning at the Grand Geneva were the most picture perfect settings for our special day and mirrored those countless dreams I’ve had since I was a little girl.

Unfortunately, I still get a little melancholy since we left the resort that weekend when it was all over – but I hear that is normal.  I cry everytime I peruse through our wedding album or watch our wedding video.  My florists said that’s normal too – when you have such a beautiful wedding that you’ve always dreamed about come true.  They’re not really tears of saddness, but tears of pride and joy and knowing I had everything I had ever wanted and dreamed about come true at such a beautiful venue.  I know these feelings of sadness and knowing that it’s all over will eventually subside.  Knowing that the day has come and gone so quickly and those anticipated dreams of my ‘big day’ are now a thing of the past.  Now, I fill my heart and night time dreams with fond memories and a sense of pride in knowing that our wedding day was everything (and more) than I had ever dreamed it would be.  John and I have already spoke on numerous occassions with our family and friends about coordinating a Memorial Weekend/wedding reunion in 3-5 years to celebrate our anniversary. How awesome would that be to have everyone together again at the Grand Geneva. But, until then, John and I would love an opportunity to spend another romantic weekend at the Grand Geneva and reminisce about our wedding day, even if it is just for one night and just the two of us.  Thank you for offering this chance to get that opportunity.  We hope to hear from you soon.  Attached are a few pictures of our fairytale wedding that came true at the Grand Geneva.
